My Hero Academia soon on Netflix-Everything You need to know
It’s time for otakus to retreat to their rooms and obsess over ‘My Hero Academia’s newest partnership with the streaming platform giant Netflix. The news of a live-action ‘My Hero Academia’ film coming to the screens has taken the internet by storm. Magna and anime lovers have long waited for this moment.
In the previous few years, Netflix has been praised for its inclusionary approach. An approach like this not only creates empathy through the stories but also produces opportunities for storytellers from all over the world. This streaming service has already produced some remakes including that of the sensational Japan-based Magna known as ‘Death Note’ and is currently working on ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’, ‘One Piece’, ‘Pokémon’, and ‘Kimi ni Todoke’.
The live-action is expected to recreate the arch of Deku or Izuku Midoriya: a middle school superhero uberfan. Deku himself is not born with quirks or superpowers and thus is unable to get into his dream institute, the prestigious U.A. High School – that trains fresh hero prospects. He dreams of becoming the very next “All Might”: the greatest heroic figure to exist. After a dream encounter with his inspiration, Deku vows to become the savior of his world and a peacemaker.

Release Date of My Hero Academia
The production teams at Netflix just announced the movie a few days ago meaning there is little to no news about its release. As far as the filming process or the casting news is concerned, there is still no development on that. It might take up to a few years since live-action films do tend to consume a lot of time. Let’s take the filming process of the One-Piece show as an example, it took two years to film, faced a lot of delays due to the pandemic, and still does not have a confirmed release date.
My Hero Academia Latest news
Kōhei Horikoshi, a renowned Japanese artist has both illustrated and written the hit manga series. More than half a 100 million copies of ‘My Hero Academia’ have been reportedly sold while the anime itself is considered one of the most treasured modern shonen anime of current times. The previous fame just adds to the worth of the upcoming live-action film that is also to be theatrically played in Japan and will be distributed by Toho Co., Ltd.
An encouraging development is that the screenplay will be written by Joby Harold who has been involved in projects like ‘Army of the Dead’, ‘Edge of Tomorrow’, ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ and the much-awaited ‘Transformers: Rise of the Beasts’. ‘Alice in Borderland’ director Shinsuke Sato is set to executively produce and direct the film: which will also serve as his first English-based project. Alex Garcia and Mary Parent are set to produce the film for Legendary.
A dream collaboration
‘My Hero Academia’ franchise has also jumped on the bandwagon of joining forces with Fortnite: a free online game, for a brand-new collaboration. These collaborations began with the characters of MCU, The Avengers making appearances in the game, and later on, characters from DCU joined in, and now a bunch of pop stars are also a part of these collabs. Franchises like ‘Naruto’ and ‘Dragon Ball Z’ have also worked with Fortnite in the past to produce some of the most iconic collabs. On December 11th Fortnite’s official Twitter account revealed that the collaboration would be launching on the 16th of December, 2022.
Towards the end of its Chapter 4 trailer, Fortnite had formerly suggested My Hero Academia’s collaboration by showcasing crossover characters like Geralt and Deku. They are seen diving right into the fray while Deku seems to be executing a ‘Detroit Smash’. Characters from other franchises have allowed players to use their distinctive abilities, which insinuates that Detroit Smash might be used as well.
It is unclear what will appear in the crossover, but players can anticipate that some of their favorite characters will show up. We have already seen glimpses of Deku, so clearly, he is going to make appearances but fans are ready to assume that other leads like All Might, Shoto, or even Ochacho might be seen displaying their magic.
Underwhelming response by some fans
While the news of a live-action film has quite literally broken the internet, some of the Magna enthusiasts have mixed reviews on this. They are of the view that these particular adaptations are below the par in terms of the CGI effects that they make use of. Since ‘My Hero Academia’ would require a lot of these effects for displaying all the Quirks, it might not live up to the expectations. They are also of the view that projects like these tend to stray away from the original plotline which is exactly what happened with Death Note.
